Water water everywhere…

Yellow Point between Ladysmith and Nanaimo is a rugged coastline of limestone bedrock. It’s sensitive groundwater aquifer limits new development to those committed to a low-water consumption lifestyle. The ecologically sensitive shoreline, dependence on on-site sewage treatment and neighbouring groundwater wells further limit development opportunities within one’s own property lines.

The non-conforming foundation of a burned-down house was the starting point for a new home on the waterfront property. The Owners, who’s lifestyle includes early morning paddles and salt-water swims, sought a strong connection with the water in a modestly sized home nestled back into the steeply sloped site.

The home is shaped to frame the best views while blocking the neighbouring homes from sight. A central stair connects the entry to the ground level, extending the living space into the rocky garden beyond.
