Located on an agricultural acreage near Nanaimo, BC, the existing ranch-style home is to be expanded to meet the needs of the growing family. Strategic remodelling of the existing house is undertaken to reconnect the living spaces with the panoramic views to the north. A horizontal addition will provide a new master bedroom suite while creating semi-enclosed decks on the north and south side of the home. The addition is turned 15 degrees to the north to capture early morning light and a complementary view experience to the living room windows.

The addition and renovation capitalizes on the existing structure; retaining what is valuable and tuning the house to the resonance of the site and the rhythm of the family.
