‘The Band’ answers the challenge to find a ‘public gathering space’ in Vancouver with a linear solution connecting the foot of Robson Street to the False Creek Waterfront.
Recognizing Vancouver’s preoccupation with edges (seawall, beach, forest-edge) as public spaces, this project successfully reconciles the civic downtown core with the edge by creating an ‘unbundled public square’ through the City’s most problematic physical barrier, the rampart of BC Place stadium.
This project was selected from 54 entries by the competition jury at a public exhibition.
